Alright so you have decided you would like your first free .com domain.
I will give step by step instructions to help you obtain your free domain name.
Requirements:
A brain
A credit card / Parents credit card
Ability to follow instructions / figure it out yourself
Lets start:
First off visit this site http://www.register.com/promo/acquisitions_8772090537.rcmx?trkID=SEMJ78Vw4W
You will see that the page says it is for a small business but it does not matter if you are one or not as they do not check.
Proceed to choosing your domain name that isnt taken.
Once you find one that isnt taken you will be redirected to a page that asks you weather you would like your domain name +email or just your domain name be sure to select that you would only like your domain name with out the email as they will charge you for the emails.
After you have selected for only the domain proceed to register your account,
*note when it asks you what you are using the domain for I recomend that you say you are using it for a home business as I am not sure what they do if you select personal.*
Continue with the registration steps.
After you have finished the registration steps and have clicked continue you will see your order and it will say the cost is something like $11, that is because register.com trys to get you to sign up for private domain registration.
Click remove next to the domain registration and you will see the bill go down to $0.00
Click proceed to checkout.
Alright now this is the confusing bit.
You may be wondering "why is it asking me for my credit card details when this is for a free domain"
Dont worry the domains are completley free and the credit card details is so that they can try and get you to renew your domain year in a years time, but I will tell you how to take automatic renewal off so that they will not charge you in a years time for your domain.
After you have filled it out you will be sent an email saying that your site is set up and ready for using.
GONGRATULATIONS
you have now recieved your free domain.

**Extra information**
Once you have logged into your account go to contact information in there will be the spot for you to remove your credit card, this helps you be sure that no payments will be made at a later time.
If you want to keep your domain name after one year of using it I would suggest that you do a domain transfer to another site.
I would reccomend GoDaddy to transfer your site to as they are a very reliable domain hosting site.
